A taxi was involved in an accident on University Way road at South Campus, NMMU on Wednesday. It is reported that the taxi driver lost control of the vehicle due to brakes malfunctioning, and crashed into a tree alongside the road.
The driver, who refused to be named said, “I tried applying the brakes after taking a turn but they [brakes] failed, so I had to use the tree alongside as back up to stop the taxi”.
The taxi had no passengers on board and the driver incurred no injuries. The vehicle was towed away as this minor accident required no police on the scene.
