If anything, the Atheneum was ‘lit’ on Friday. Miss Jay Jennings, a local hip hop DJ in Port Elizabeth, hosted her first hip hop session, called Sam Jam Sessions, this past weekend. In an intimate space, full to capacity with avid hip hop fans – the event was off on a good start.
It did not only encompass Miss Jay’s work, but it also allowed hip hip DJ’s such as Adon Geel, Pablo and Beatology to showcase their take on hip hip music. As well, Ergo Zen‘s Nozuko Ngicizela, a fashion designer in PE also got a chance to promote her work at the event. So basically, the Sam Jam Sessions were a platform for emerging artists in the city.
Coupled with great music and company, the Atheneum was the place to be. And until Miss Jay graced the stage, we thought we’d heard it all – this couldn’t be further from the truth.
She through it back with Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s Kana Uchema, and the floor went crazy. A mix of old skool hip hop, lacal is lekker, and a great crowd to bump heads and contort bodies – myself included, the event was nothing short of amazing.
